*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The Department of Mathematics at Johns Hopkins University seeks an experienced teaching faculty member to direct its entry-level course sequence. Responsibilities will include instruction, course coordination, management of curriculum and technology, and professional development of instructors and TAs. We view this as a leadership position: the successful candidate will have significant latitude to revise or re-imagine our existing programming. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences or mathematics education, as well as demonstrated teaching leadership experience.

Our intention, contingent on performance during an initial review period, is for this to be a long-term hire, eligible for promotion to the rank of Associate or Full Teaching Professor. While we anticipate an initial appointment at the rank of Senior Lecturer, for exceptional candidates an appointment at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or higher may be considered. The position is benefits-eligible, including JHU's excellent college tuition benefit for dependent children.

We seek candidates with a record of excellence in teaching and teaching-related scholarly activities, the intellectual curiosity to pursue novel and innovative methods of thinking and teaching, and a commitment to pedagogical inquiry and teaching innovation; an interest in establishing a long-term teaching career with the Department; the administrative, organizational, and mentoring skills required to coordinate a large service course; and the mathematical background necessary to interact with the graduate students in our department.

To apply, please submit a cover letter specific to this position, along with a curriculum vitae and teaching dossier. The dossier should at a minimum include a teaching statement and sample class materials. Please also arrange the submission of four letters of recommendation, at least two of which address your teaching and leadership experience, and at least one of which addresses your mathematical background. Consideration of applications will begin on December 1, 2019, and will continue until the position is filled.

Johns Hopkins University is committed to active recruitment of a diverse faculty and student body. The University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer of women, minorities, protected veterans and individuals with disabilities, and encourages applications from members of these and other protected groups. We are committed to conducting a broad and inclusive search for a candidate who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the JHU community. Consistent with the University's goals of achieving excellence in all areas, we will assess the comprehensive qualifications of each applicant.
