Fellowship Description
The Department of
Statistics and Actuarial Science in the Faculty of Mathematics at the
University of Waterloo is inviting applicants for a few Mathematics Prestigious
Postdoctoral Fellowships to start in Fall 2023. The starting date can be flexible.
The Mathematics
Prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowships are a new program initiated in 2021 within the Faculty of Mathematics with the hope to attract the top talented
young scholars in all areas of mathematical sciences. The postdoc fellow, if
successfully appointed, will have a very competitive salary, strong research
support, and no teaching duties. The option to teach is available if agreed by
the postdoc fellow, the supervisor, and the department, with extra
compensation. The Faculty of Mathematics will appoint 3 fellows each year
across its 5 research units. Each appointment will be two years by default. Please
apply to this position through this link (the Department of Statistics and
Actuarial Science) if you consider Statistics and Actuarial Science as your
potential home department. In addition to the new Mathematics Prestigious
Postdoctoral Fellowships, the department currently hosts about 15 postdocs in
Statistics and Actuarial Science under the regular postdoc program.
Applicants
are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial
Science, Quantitative Finance, or a related area by the time of appointment. Applicants are asked to submit (a) a cover letter
(b) a curriculum vitae and (c) a short research statement describing current
and past research (two page maximum). The applicant should request (d) at least
three letters of recommendation, uploaded by their writers at https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/list/21109. In the cover letter, the applicant needs to specify at least one and up to
three potential supervisors that they will work with within the department.
The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science is in an exciting period of
expansion due to a major investment in the Department by the University, with many
other open positions. An application to the Mathematics Prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowships does not
affect their other applications to our regular postdoc or faculty positions.
The
application deadline is December 16, 2022, and offers will be made in late
January by the Faculty of Mathematics.
To support the
University’s strategic plan for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, we strongly encourage female-identifying or BIPOC
applicants to apply.
All
qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent
residents will receive priority in the recruitment process.
