SUMMARY 
The Acquisitions Editor acquires books for the Society’s publishing program and has primary responsibility for the series published under the MAA Press imprint. The Acquiring Editor will collaborate internally with members of the Acquisitions team, Production, Creative Services, and Marketing. The Acquisitions Editor works collaboratively with the Publisher, with editorial boards for books and with AMS co-publication partners. The Acquisitions Editor will report to the Publisher. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Pursue an active and efficient acquisition policy through correspondence, appropriate trips and meetings, telephone, consultations with appropriate advisors. 
  • Prepare publication contracts. 
  • Sign (fully executed contract) approximately 15 books per year in line with AMS strategic book publishing objectives. 
  • Maintain close contacts with MAA Press book series editorial committees, supervise evaluation of projects by these editorial committees. Collaborate with AMS book series editorial committees. 
  • Work closely with the Publisher and other members of the Editorial Department to contribute to the department’s yearly operating and budget plans. 
  • Supervise final editorial preparation of manuscripts for production. 
  • Review and discuss new projects and plan with editorial colleagues. 
  • Contribute to setting scientific and editorial standards for books. 
  • Participate in development of strategic plans for book acquisitions activities. 
  • Analyze and enhance current AMS publishing practices, and foster new initiatives consistent with strategic planning. 
  • Work closely with potential and existing book authors to ensure positive interactions with staff. 
  • Attend relevant major mathematical events, including the annual Joint Mathematical Meeting, MathFest, sectional meetings (AMS and MAA), and selected national and international conferences. 
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO APPLY IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING 
  • A Bachelor degree in mathematics or a related discipline is required. A graduate qualification in mathematical sciences, higher education, or related fields is preferred. 
  •  Experience as an instructor within the US undergraduate mathematics curriculum. 
  • Must possess demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Experience in scholarly publishing desirable. 
  • A thorough understanding of the academic purpose and mission that guides society publishing.
