Job DescriptionThe University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Applied and/or Computational Mathematics, Department of Mathematical Sciences [R0140919]. ROLE of the POSITION The successful candidate is expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, publish in refereed research journals, pursue external funding, and supervise graduate students. In addition, the candidate is expected to provide service to the department, college, university, and the profession. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring students from different backgrounds with diverse life experiences and learning styles. Commencing Spring/Fall 2025.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences currently has 30 regular faculty members and around 45 graduate students. It offers BA, BS, MS and PhD degrees in Mathematical Sciences. The Department is part of the College of Sciences, which also include the departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics and Astronomy, Geoscience, and Life Sciences. The Department is committed to enhancing the diversity of the university community and curriculum. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position requires a Ph.D. in Applied and/or Computational Mathematics from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preference will be given to candidates who are in their early careers and demonstrate commitment to excellence in both teaching and scholarly activities.
